About Us

History St Cuthberts is a Church of England parish church in Bradford, UK. We’re situated in the suburb of Wrose, about two miles up the hill from the city centre.

Wrose has been around for hundreds of years, but it was only a small village and scattered farms until after WW1. Rapid expansion of housing took place between the wars, leading to the formation of our parish in 1930 and the building of a mission church in 1931. That building is now our Church Hall, used for a variety of church and community activities.

By the late 1950’s the work had outgrown the premises, and under the direction of the then Bishop Coggan, a new church building was consecrated on January 31st 1959. A connecting building of meeting rooms and a kitchen was built in the 1960’s, giving us the excellent suite of facilities that we now enjoy. The whole building has been extensively refurbished over the last few years, giving us a welcoming, flexible and warm space for worship and mission.

Vicar The Vicar of St Cuthberts is Reverend Paul Walker - he has been at St Cuthberts since 1997, and is a born and bred Bradfordian who has spent his entire ministry in the City. He lives next door in the Vicarage with vicar3.JPGwife Nasreen and children Lauren (20), Joel (18), Nathan (15), Bethany (11) and Zachary (7)

Preaching Most of the teaching and preaching is shared between a team. As well as Paul, our Vicar, we have a retired Vicar called Ron Jackson who worships with us and makes a significant contribution to our Sunday services. We have two Readers, Stewart Knowles and Jane Bennett.

Worship We have a highly talented and gifted team of musicians and singers, who lead us in worship week by week. This is led by Nasreen Walker.

Churchwardens Our wardens currently are Steve Nuttall and Sandra Knowles. They are the key lay leaders in the Church and meet with the clergy regularly for planning, prayer and mutual support.

Ministry Team This is an ever growing concept in the life of our Church, which has recently been expanded even more! We now have TWO Ministry Teams! One is focussed on the life of the church in all its aspects - worship, spiritual life, fellowship, healing and pastoral, and consists of Lorraine Betts, June Rendell, Wendy Ingham, Stewart Knowles, Steven Nuttall, Graham Robinson, Sandra Knowles and Jennifer Moore. The other group is concerned with issues that look outwards - mission, outreach, community links, working with other churches and so on. This consists of Jane Bennett, Nasreen Walker, Steve Betts, Bev Strauss, Graham Rendell, Natalie Whiteley and Michele Slaney

PCC The church is governed by a PCC consisting of the clergy, readers, wardens, Deanery reps and elected members, a total of 18 people in all.
