Andy Milne visit 'Sorted'

The next Seconds will feature a visit from Andy Milne, pioneer Youth minister and church planter. Andy is responsible for heading up the Sorted Youth project that St Cuthberts is invested in, together with our new partners at St James Bolton (and other local churches)

Come along and hear Andy give an interesting and challenging input. I've heard Andy talk about this before, and it is always well worth hearing

Meet on Wednesday October 14th (note the non-standard day) from 7.30 pm in the Church Meeting Room. Supper will be provided.

Shepherds Pie Supper

Join the Men of the Church for the next 'Seconds' on Tuesday April 28th

This will be an informal evening of conversation and fellowship, featuring a Shepherds Pie Supper

No speaker this time around, but several of the men will be giving a testimony, and there will also be a Q&A time when people will able to pose any questions (anonymously if they so desire) for discussion in the group. Should be interesting

Come along to the Church Meeting Room at 7.30 pm.

Thinking about Israel

Israel is a subject that Christians really ought to know more about, even though the scenario there is so complex and convoluted. One local clergy person who knows more about Israel than most is Gordon Dey, the Vicar of Holmewood, who has made a number of trips there and really though through what is happening over in the Holy Land.

Join us at Seconds for an evening of fellowship and learning more about the situation in Israel and Palestine - with slides and video it promises to be entertaining and enjoyable.

It all happens on Wednesday (note unusual day) February 11th, from 7.30 pm. Tickets £2 from Steve Betts including a home-cooked supper.

New Year meet up

'Seconds' launches into the New Year with a meeting on Tuesday January 13th.

At the request of members, forthcoming meetings will feature guest speakers and we get things off to a flying start by welcoming the Reverend John Walker, Vicar of Calverley, to this first meeting of the year.

John has been at Calverley for a good few years, but was previously a missionary in South America. He's a good and interesting speaker, and will pepper his testimony-cum-talk with plenty of humour. It should be a good night.

Tickets £2 inc food from Steve Betts

Guest evening with Bishop David

The next Seconds evening will be something of a special - we'll be having our Bishop, David James, as guest speaker andbradpakistan2.jpg we're marking the occasion by taking flight from the Church and meeting over a meal at The Manor in Eccleshill.

This is a fantastic opportunity to invite other men along - a lot of blokes are interested to hear a well-known figure such as the Bishop of Bradford, and we are hoping that many of the church men will not only come along, but bring other men with them.

Great food, great company and a great after-dinner speaker - it all points to a good evening for Seconds, and it all happens on Tuesday February 26th from 7.30 pm onwards. We hope to have at least 30 men on the night - so don't miss out. Contact Steve Betts or Graham Rendell if you would like to come.

'Seconds' Update

22571410.jpgIt's been (quite rightly) pointed out to me that this particular section of the website hasn't been updated for some time - which might give a false impression that 'Seconds' has bitten the dust....

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth! The men have been meeting regularly over recent months - with a Summer Barbeque at Steve's house being a particular highlight. As the nights have drawn in, the venue has switched back to the Church - in September there was a good turn out for a showing of the William Wilberforce biopic 'Amazing Grace', followed by a brief discussion of the issues raised. Then, this month, there was relaxed evening of chat, fellowship and a delicious paella meal prepared by Steve (a different one from the Steve who hosted the BBQ)

Thanks to a third Steve (not everyone in the group is called Steve, I promise) for pointing out the oversight. We'll keep this section updated with forthcoming events from now on.
