rn5.jpgThe next 'Seconds' evening will be on Tuesday May 22nd in the Meeting Room

This will be 'A Night of Journeys' - time and space to reflect of our own and others journeys towards God. We all following interesting paths to God- sometimes with interesting detours thrown in for good measure! On this evening we'll have time to share and talk about them.

If you would like to come then please could you let Graham Rendell or Steve Betts know, so that catering can be put in place. Soup and sandwiches will be provided. Bring whatever you want to drink.

A date for the diary - there will be a 'Seconds' Barbeque on Tuesday June 26th. More details later.

War and Pancakes

pancakes.jpgWell, 'War and Pancakes' is a combination that you don't hear very often - but that's the title of the next exciting 'Seconds 'evening. 'Seconds' is the Men's Ministry of St Cuthberts and is quickly establising itself as a 'don't miss' event for the blokes in Church, plus others from the fringe or outside the Church who are invited along.

Since this next evening falls on Pancake Tuesday, the food will be delicious pancakes with a selection of fillings. Ron Jackson will be along to talk about his experiences in the Navy, and how being a Christian impacted his life in the Armed Services. Those of you who have heard Ron occasionally refer to this time in sermons will knw that this is something that's played a big part in his life - and it promises to be a facinating evening.

'War and Pancakes' takes place on Tuesday February 20th in the Church Meeting Room. Pancakes tossed from 7.30 pm! Everyone is most welcome!

Rugby and Chilli

Rugby and Chilli is the unlikely combination for the next Men's Night planned for the Church men and their friends.

rugby.jpgAs well as being a top class preacher, it's not widely known that Steve Allen is also a top class rugby referee with experience at leading club and representative level. Come along and hear him share humorous anecdotes and how being in the world of rugby impacted his Christian faith!

Join us on Tuesday January 23rd, from 7.30 pm in the Church Meeting Room. If you are coming please let Steve Betts or Graham Rendell know for the catering.

The Men's Group, tentatively titled 'Seconds' (its a boxing analogy!) is going from strength to strength. Look out for a special section of this web site as the program of activities, discussions and social gatherings develops in the future!

Men's Night proves a big hit

The latest evening for the Church blokes proved to be a rip-roaring success as 20 men turned up to watch the highly acclaimed and somewhat controversial big screen adaptation of 'The Da Vinci Code'men2.jpg

men1.jpgFulled by lashing of pizza and beer, we sat through the showing on the big screen, and then discussed the issues raised by the movie. Steve Allen, who has done quite a bit of background reading was on hand to help us think through the issues of secret gospels, truth, conspiracy theory and the hidden meanings of works of art - quite a heady mix!

Big thanks to Steve and Graham for their work in putting this evening together - it was great to see a room full of men... not something that you see all that often in a Church, I have to say!! We're already looking forward to future evenings for the men of the Church.

Cracking the Da Vinci Code

dvc.jpgThe next Men's Evening is to be on Tuesday November 21st in the Church Meeting Room.

We'll be watching the film 'The Da Vinci Code', which has recently been released on DVD. Is Christianity discredited and finally exposed as the greatest cover up and hoax of all time? Is there a secret message that the Church has knowingly suppressed for centuries, something that would blow apart the Christian faith?

Come and watch the film - and then discuss the issues. Pizza and drinks will be provided to help to wash down the movie!  This is a suitable evening for all the blokes in the Church - and a good event to bring a friend to as well. So why not invite a mate to come with you?

It all happens from 7.00 pm on November 21st - the film last just over two hours, so with discussion etc, we'll be finishing at around, or just before, 10.00 pm.

Please let Steve Betts or Graham Rendell know if you are coming, for catering numbers. Being a chemist.

Men's Group starts

After a couple of 'false starts' over the years, its good to be up and running - at last - with a Men's Ministry in the Church.

Steve Betts is heading up this work, with the full support of the Vicar and PCC. There was a breakfast meeting a man.giffew weeks ago to talk about a vision and strategy for pulling together the men in Church, and this was followed by a Men's Supper in the Church Meeting Room on Saturday evening. Graham Rendell donned the apron and prepared a superb three course meal and there was an encouraging turn out of men from the Church.

The basic vision of the group is to be an encouragement and support to one another in our living out the Christian faith in the home and at work. Look for details of future men's events coming soon - both those specifically for men in the Church, and also invitational events. Once things start to take shape, we'll start a special 'Mens Group' page on this site with news, updates, photos etc.
